Look at these gorgeous paintings by Chris Hooper, oils on stretch canvas. I posted earlier on Chris was delivering paintings (the two above) to enter a show at the Riverside Centre - Brisbane Rotary Art Spectacular. Last night, Chris was awarded the "Peoples Choice Award" (apparently by an overwhelmed crowd) for 2009. Chris will now be the recipient of a $2000 cheque for his beautiful painting "Manly Reflections" and there is no doubt it will be snapped up by some lucky person...well done Chris, you are wonderful artist, with a passion and it certainly shows. We love everything you do and this award is well deserved. I think the Peoples Choice is a wonderful award to receive as it shows what the "real" person on the street really likes. Its not about what you think you should like or having something just for an investment - its whether you would have this hanging in your home to enjoy for the rest of your life. We are so very proud and honoured to have Chris in our stable of artists.

Literally! how does she do it? Jan Hodgson is a beautiful pastel artist, winning 1st prize at the RNA in 2008. Jan will sketch the composition first, and this is what takes most of the time - its a wonder she doesnt go "cross-eyed" painting these stripes. Jan delivered a couple of smaller pieces of still life (small square sizes) - An Apple a Day and Pomegranate - see images below.

I have just noticed, for some unknown reason, in my previous posts - that any webstite I mentioned has now been deleted.. go figure! must a little hitch going on somewhere - joys of blogging. I'm getting there...Here are some gorgeous images from one of our favourite artists (well they are all my favourites), I'll probably throw that term around all the time - Chris Reilly who paints beautiful oils in her impressionist style, mostly on canvas, some are under glass. Her favourite subject matters are based around European scenes and/or people and the nostalgic era of the roaring 20's or 40's. I hope to get better at posting etc...such a learning curve. I have added Shannon Garson to my blog list. Shannon is one of artists specialising in porcelain which is just devine, I will post some of her images shortly.

Beautiful oils delivered to the gallery today by Chris Hooper - Chris was on his way to deliver further works to be shown in the upcoming Brisbane Rotary Art Spectacular which commences on the 26th March through to 3rd April. It is held at the Riverside Centre in Brisbane, I usually catch the citycat as Riverside resides just above the wharf and it so handy if you are coming from the other side of the river. These two paintings are currently on show at TMG and they are simply beautiful, let me know if you need any further info. The top painting is called "Colours of Castaway Creek" (Sunshine Coast) 110x110cms oil on stretch canvas and the bottom one is called "Morning on Sunshine Ridge" 150cms x 66cms oil on stretch canvas.

Karen Atkins collects little boxes from the markets, they might be old chocolate boxes or old cigar and wine boxes, she paints on the flat surface of the lids with her little paintings. She paints wedding scenes, babies, horses, rabbits etc in her naive "story telling" way. No two are the same which makes them totally unique and affordable. We adore them and we always have a little collection at the gallery. It will be an early start tomorrow as we have the beautiful farmers markets on the foreshore at Manly.
The famous Jan Powers Farmers Markets are at Manly on the 3rd Saturday of each month, visit http://www.janpowersfarmersmarkets.com/ for more info. Jan enjoys collecting art and is a real foodie, so we were thrilled when she chose our area for her market. Our little seaside village will see a gathering of the best and freshest fruits, vegetables, meats, flowers, bakery items and preserves of every kind - all fresh from the farm and sold by the "farmer". Love it!

Preparations are currently underway with an Exhibition at the gallery (in April) featuring Pam Walpole and Bruce Buchanan. We have been designing the invitation cards, organising the printing and generally preparing the gallery for this show. In the meantime the artists have been taking images of their work so we are able to place them onto our website http://www.manlygallery.com.au/ and we've been designing the email invite to our customers. Organising press releases and a photographer from the local newspaper and advertisements to go in the paper etc - lots of organising! not to mention the hundreds of stamps that have to be placed onto envelopes and the customers' address labels, but you know, its well worth it. The exhibition opening will be on Friday 3rd April from 5pm. I've attached three images of the beautiful work the artists currently have at the gallery. Pam and Bruce have many paintings on show at the Greenslopes Private Hospital, where it is a virtual art gallery, displaying beautiful artworks, sculpure and glassware - its like a 5star hotel rather than a private hospital - luckily I've never stayed there, and if I ever have to, at least I could enjoy the lovely artwork.

These two paintings by Jane James were recently chosen as finalists in an exhibition by the Australian Society of Marine Artists National Exhibition. They are now shown at the gallery and both paintings are just devine. Jane is an excellent scuba diver and in the The Big Blue she has tried to paint the "inky" blue of the deep ocean and what lies beneath - these paintings have to be seen "in situ" as they have a "shot" appearance and under different light you can see different images - beautiful! thanks for the delivery Jane.

The weekend was amazing, beautiful weather and lots of people out and about, enjoying the cafes and the little markets on the forshore. I want to show you this beautiful collection of watercolours by our Brisbane artist, Helen Beaver. Helen's paintings are very atmospheric, which can only be captured in a painting. How many times have you taken a photo of something, be it a landscape, portrait, a building etc to find it lacks "atmosphere"and you wondered why you took the photo in the first place! paintings can capture it. Beautiful, romantic Venice - Helen travels to Europe quite often and from her travels she is able to bring us the wonderful compositions captured in her paintings.

Adam, one of my artists has just delivered two new works. We love Adam's work, it is always filled with colour and brightness. We shared a coffee and a chat, its always nice to catch up with my artists and have one-on-one time with them.
