Discover the secret - beautiful, personal pieces - handmade by an artist from Queensland.
Doug Cartwright makes these amazing Memory Boxes and Lanterns. The memory boxes incorporate ocean polished glass and china washed ashore near Hobart. The 19th century ship was carrying a cargo of china. The microchip Lantern would make for a few comments! its amazing how intricate and delicate it looks once it becomes alight.

Christine Atkins wins award at Darcy Doyle Art Awards

Christine receiving her award
from Mr Peter Ochsenbein

The Winning Painting with Mrs Darcy Doyle

Wonderful news and many congratulations go to Christine for winning this award. Christine has been awarded "First Prize" in the Still Life section of the Darcy Doyle Art Awards at the Gold Coast a couple of days ago. The show has different judges each year, however, Christine has won this award three years out of the last four (the other year, she came second). They broadly hinted at the award ceremony that she should stay out of it next year!
Here are a couple of images to share with you, it shows Mrs Darcy Doyle presenting the award to Christine, the other image shows Christine with the winning painting and the top image shows the generous donor of the award, Mr Peter Ochsenbein, director of The Mudgeeraba Foundation . We are absolutely thrilled for Christine to win this award once again. I am amazed by the amount of award winning artists are represented through The Manly Gallery, and we always have Christine's beautiful oils and pastels on display.

Three Little Gems by Susan Montgomery

Susan is often inspired by the everyday goings on in childrens lives - and these little gems do not disappoint. "The Little Tree" has a small dusting of glitter on the base - a special touch. All paintings measure 30cms high x 23cms wide and priced at $185 each (less 10% of course) - absolutely divine for a childrens room.

"The Little Tree"

"Comfort Zone"

Susan has incorporated a small amount of collage into these works, which is delightful. The colours are rich and textured. Many moons ago Susan undertook studies in fashion design, which I think shows a little suggestion with the clothing.

Straddie Splendor

"Frenchmans Beach" (looking south) 75x100cms

"The Gorge" Point Lookout 75x101cms
Two beautiful oil paintings on stretch canvas from Chris Hooper have just arrived in the gallery. Recently, Chris had a small holiday in this beautiful part of the bay, and was able to take photographs and paint little studies of this area. Turquoise waters and crystal clear skies - a perfect combination. This is such a painterly subject and Chris has bought these paintings to life with masterly strokes. I love the way the light is touching the pandanus tree and rocks in the Gorge painting. The afternoon shadows in Frenchmans Beach - exquisite - you can feel the soft, cold sand!

We love & adore.....

Meet "Miranda" she is just adorable and is sitting under our Christmas tree as you enter the gallery - she is bright, colourful and is bringing lots of smiles to anyone who sees her! a very unique sculpture.

"Miranda" standing beside "Baby Bouquet" by Kendall

"Pelicans & Pelicans with Fish"

"Fishies" with a Veronica Robilliard painting

"Fish 'n Lips"

These whimsical sculptures are built with a special raku clay. I dont think I have ever seen any sculpture that comes close to these quirky, little gems. Val and Phil Willy have been creating for many years, about as long as the gallery has been established! the colour combinations on some of them are amazing and I often have a little laugh when I'm unpacking them and seeing their little heads emerge! priced at well under $100 - especially with our SALE which continues until Christmas eve (10% off everything at the gallery)

Magical Properties of Light

Jan Hodgson has delivered this new collection of pastels - pattern and shape, light and shade are key elements to these exquisite paintings and a little sense of humour from the artist can be quite playful at times (or quirky if you like!)

"Its Times Like These"

"Fruit Cocktail"

"White Gloves"

"Watching You"

I love the way there is a "suggestion" of the animals - focusing on the bare elements of the zebra and the tiger . If you have been into our gallery, you will always notice a Zebra painting or two by Jan, they are so popular, they virtually sell themselves as people appreciate the delicacy and skill required that goes into painting pastels. No two compositions are ever the same.
Jan won the second prize at the RNA this year (last year she won First Prize).

New Paintings from Bruce Buchanan

"Avenue" in situ at the gallery

"Boat Harbour Reflections"

"Through the Mangroves"

"Lowtide on the Beach"

Slightly removed from the ordinary, the painting "Avenue" is a remarkable piece of work, once again Bruce displays his masterful, watercolour techniques with this superb painting. I had to show you what it looks like at the gallery, because of the simplicity, it displays such an atmospheric composition.

The other three beautiful paintings are probably spoken for by the time I write this, however, just had to show you the superb paintings Bruce is currently painting. The three paintings are a great little size, lovely frames with double white matts and there will be more to come in the next couple of weeks. I dont think I've ever seen a more beautiful painting of the Manly Boat Harbour as this one - the light coming in from the right of this painting, is just superb, brightening the overall composition.

Bright and Colourful by Kendall

Put your sunglasses on when you enter the gallery, these beautiful pieces from Kendall would brighten up any home or office. They are lush and bold, and we love them - so "Queenslander".

"Butterfly Pond"

"Colour Explosion"

"Hello Iris"

"Baby Bouquet (i)"

"Baby Bouquet ii"
Kendall has become highly collectable, and has made her mark on the contemporary art scene in a big way. Kendall has established herself on the global art scene in a blaze of colour and character - its not just great art - its a celebebration of "All Things Australian" - a motto she goes by - I'll second that.

Small Works by Susan Montgomery

The last batch of paintings from Susan sold almost immediately, in fact one sold as I was unpacking them! the colours in these pieces are just superb, and would brighten up the dullest of places! they are just small enough to place anywhere, even on an easel on your sofa table or sideboard.

"No Angel"

"The Juggling Act"

Dont forget! we have 10% of all our artworks up until Christmas, these two little 'uns are usually priced at $185 - now just $166 - be quick!!
