New work from Bruce Buchanan

This tranquil framed watercolour from Bruce Buchanan will delight with its' muted tones and subtle colours.  Stradbroke Island scenes are a favourite at the gallery so this iconic piece won't last long.

The Oystermen’s Hut, North Stradbroke Island

                                                        Watercolour 63 x 120cm Silver Frame

Artist's Statement - I wanted to capture the solitary nature of this little corrugated iron building perched above the high tide mark out on the oysterbank. Set against the sand flats and backdrop of Moreton Bay it is an understated yet wonderful combination of horizontal and vertical elements.

It is situated out on a former oysterlease between Dunwich and Amity Point and not far out through the mangroves at Myora Springs and yet I’m often surprised that many visitors to Stradbroke Island don’t know of it. Maybe that’s a good thing. Some of the local fishermen call it the “Myora Hilton”. Bruce Buchanan
